Our Genesis
CAFVI was founded on June 11, 2002 by a group of parents brought together from across Canada. The need for a national association of families with children who are blind or visually impaired was recognized by all. Through CAFVI, we can provide information and support to each other and those working with our children, and we can advocate for our children as one voice.
Our objectives are to
establish one voice that speaks toward improving the quality of life for children who are blind or visually impaired, including those with additional challenges, and their families;
provide a link with the regions by identifying common needs, issues and challenges across the country;
provide connection for families by establishing and maintaining a national database of members;
support existing parent groups;
develop or foster regional support groups in those areas where they dont exist;
develop partnerships;
continually strive to network information and resources with regions across Canada.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide support, information and advocacy for families of children who are blind or visually impaired, including those with additional challenges.
